Event Description
Event location: Sants district of Barcelona La Festa Major de Sants 2012. The Sants Festival in Barcelona in Sants neighbourhood of Barcelona overlaps with bigger Festa Major de Gracia another big neighbourhood Festa Major starts in the Sants district of Barcelona. Although not quite as famous as Gracia festival, the "Festa Major de Sants" is worth visiting. Many of the main activities take place in "Parc de l'Espanya Industrial" and 15 streets in Sants (2012) decorated by the residents in colourful themes. There are many chances to see Catalan traditions like the correfoc firerun which is on Friday 24th August 2012 at 19:30 for children and 21:30 for adults. The Diada Castellera human tower day is on Sunday 26th August at 12.00 at Parc de l'Espanya Industrial and you can see giants and big heads called gegants and capgrossos at the opening parade and at the giants ball. Sporting highlights of the Sants Festa Major are the bike race Cursa Ciclista 'Memorial Antoni Andrés Sancho and the 2k run (2 circuits of 1000 metres) called "2000 de Sants - Cursa atlètica de la Festa Major." Both the bike race and the run are usually on the last Sunday of the festival. The Sants neighbourhood festival finishes with a fireworks and music display on Sunday 26th August at 21:30. Check the Festa Major Sants website and programme below for activities and a map of decorated streets. Other traditional festivals in Barcelona in August are the Festa Major de Gracia and the Festes de San Roc. Street prizes in 2012. Plaça de la Farga took 1st prize in the Festa Major de Sants street decoration competition.
