Pictures dancing egg Corpus Christi Barcelona

A wonderful Corpus Christi tradition in Barcelona is to make an egg dance on a jet of water. It is called "l'ou com balla" in Catalan, which means "the dancing egg."  You can see a dancing egg in several places in Barcelona at cloister fountains, patios and gardens of public and private buildings from during Corpus Christi from 10:00 to 20:00. The dancing eggs in the pictures below are from the "Arxiu Històric de la ciutat" in the "Casa de l'Ardiaca" on Plaça Nova and from the cloisters of "Barcelona Cathedral La Seu " More "Dancing Eggs" can also be seen in Barcelona at fountains at the "Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres", the "Poble Espanyol Spanish village," the "Museo Frederic Marès," the  "Arxiu de la Corona d'Aragó,"  the "Palau del Lloctinent" in Plaça del Rei, the "Ateneu Barcelonès", the cloisters of the "Santa Anna church" and "Puríssima Concepció" churches and the Pedralbes Monastery. Dancing egg Corpus Christi
No-one quite knows how this started, but it has been part of Corpus Christi in Barcelona since 1637. Some think it is merely a game with water started by bored noblemen in the mansions on Carrer Montcada to amuse themselves while waiting for the corpus Christi procession to come by.
