 The new Camp Nou In 2008 Camp Nou turned fifty and to mark the 50 year anniversary of the Camp Nou stadium. The name Camp Nou means “new field” in Catalan. FC Barcelona unveiled plans for a "new Camp Nou," which will be a complete restructuring of the FC Barcelona football stadium. But due to the current economical crisis the plans for the "new Nou Camp" stadium are temporarily on hold and a final date for the construction of the new stadium has not been decided.  Pictures of present Camp Nou stadium Hotels near Camp Nou stadiumAward-winning British architect Norman Foster was chosen to transform the iconic FCB stadium into a world class symbol of Barcelona and Catalonia making it “an international architectural reference point for the 21st century.” The new design looks amazing and was enthusiastically received by fans. Foster is one of the world's most successful living architects with incredible structures like the Millau Viaduct in France and the Beijing Airport in China among his impressive list of achievements. Foster also is no stranger to the city of Barcelona. For the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona he designed the Collserola Tower Norman Foster also about football stadiums having more recently designed the new Wembley Stadium in London. With his designs for the new Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona Norman Foster pays tribute to Antoni Gaudi, the famous Catalan architect, by taking inspiration from mosaics for the new covering of the future stadium. It will be a Gaudi-esque mosaic of multi-coloured tiles in FC Barcelona blue and scarlet colours alongside the orange and yellow colours of Catalonia's flag. The new Camp Nou in Barcelona will have extra seating bringing the total seating capacity up from the present day 98.800 spectators to almost 109.000 Barca fans on a full night. The estimated cost of the new Camp Nou stadium is expected to be around €250 million. Football games will continue during the construction.
