The Fossar de la Pedrera (Quarry Cemetery) is at the foot of Montjuïc hill in the Sants-Montjuïc district of Barcelona and forms part of the Montjuïc Cemetery.
This former quarry was used as a mass grave for an estimated 4,000 victims of Spain's "White Terror", also known as "The Francoist Repression" (la Represión Franquista) which was a series of political crimes committed by the Nationalist rebel faction during the
Spanish Civil War (1936 – 1939), and during the first decade of Francisco Franco's dictatorship following his victory in the war.
There is now a memorial at 'Fossar de la Pedrera'. Since 1985 the site also houses the remains of
Lluís Companys, the 123rd President of Catalonia, who was executed in the 'Fossa le la Pedrera' by the Francoist regime on 15th October 1940.
