RCD Espanyol football club Barcelona. The official club name is Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol de Barcelona or Real Club Deportivo Espanol. Espanyol is a Barcelona based football club who play in primera liga. In August 2009 the team moved to a new Espanyol stadium called 'l'Estadi del RCD Espanyol Cornellà-El Prat' or usually just 'Estadi Cornellà-El Prat.'
The new Espanyol stadium is in Barcelona in the suburb of Cornella de Llobregat, which is outside the city center of Barcelona and easy to reach by metro from the centre of Barcelona.
RCD Espanyol was founded in 1900 and was the first football team in Spain to be founded entirely by Spanish football fans unlike earlier Spanish football teams, which were founded by a mixture of foreigners living in Spain and locals.
The original name of the RCD Espanyol was 'Sociedad Espanola de Futbol.'
The first club strip were bright yellow shirts, which inspired the nickname that stands to this day, 'Los Periquitos' - The Parakeets.
In 1910 the club was renamed Club Deportivo Espanol and changed the strip to the present day blue and white stripes inspired by the colours of the coat of arms of the Catalan admiral,
Roger de Lluria. Visit RCD Espanyol website for details of matches and club news.
