La_Molina ski station near Barcelona. La Molina is a popular ski station in the Pre-Pyrenees mountains near Barcelona. It's proximity makes it popular for day ski trips from Barcelona. La Molina is the oldest ski resort in Spain. The first commercial ski lift was opened in 1943. La Molina has a skiable terrain of 71 km and 66 ski runs; the maximum height difference is 2.445 m and the minimum 1.400 m. La Molina is in the Pre-pyrenees where there is less snowfall that in the Pyrenees.

The extensive network of snow cannons mean that La Molina is usually open all winter, but sometimes only has snow on the tracks and little snow on surrounding areas.

La Molina is a ski station and not really a village resort so there are few restaurants or shops. It's very nice for 1 day of skiing - it's easy to get to La Molina by bus or train - scroll down for driving information - or you can buy a day skibus pack which includes ski-pass.

If you prefer to go for 2 days of skiing you might have to book the bus/train separately and then buy the liftpass at the slopes.

La Molina is more of a ski station than a village resort so it is perhaps not the best choice for a full week of skiing because there are few afterski options

There are three hotels (scroll to bottom of page for hotel info) for short stays which makes La Molina perfect for 2 days ski trips from Barcelona.

The hotel next to the slopes is Hotel HG La Molina which is rated Very Good by guests. Recent review "Great location, just a short walk to slopes, ski lift, supermarket and ski hire shop. Indoor Spa pool lovely. Food good, especially breakfast."

La Molina sometimes hosts national and international World cup skiing and snowboarding races and events.

Ski Pass & Ticket Rates - La Molina Season 2023/2024. A 1 day lift pass for La Molina ski area costs €49 in 2024.

La Molina has 67 skiable kilometers distributed over 61 slopes for all levels, a snowpark and the biggest superpipe in the Pyrenees.

La Molina snowpark has modules, railings and ramps and is accessible by taking the Trampolí [Ski-jump] chair lift.

The snowpark is great for freestyle, jumping and acrobatics and has one of the longest styled slopes in the Pyrenees with up to 7 consecutive modules with different levels of difficulty. It also features an impressive 90m long and 3.70m high Half-Pipe in the Torrent Negre area. 

La Molina offers activities like snow-grooming tours,  snowshoeing, segway on snow and mushing tours among others.

By Car to La Molina

The driving time to La Molina from the centre of Barcelona is around 2 hours. There are toll costs for highways and a toll charge to drive through the 5 km Tunel de Cadi.

By Ski Bus to La Molina

Sagales bus company offers a one day package Skibus trips to La Molina on Wednesdays and Fridays in the ski season. The price is € 60 (2024 prices)

SkiBus prices includes transport, insurance and ski pass and leaves at 6.30am from Estació del Nord bus station.

By Ski Train to La Molina

La Molina offers a one day Skitren Molina train package. You can buy the "Skitren La Molina" ticket at any Renfe Cercanías/Rodalies railway stations in Barcelona, including railway stations Catalunya, Passeig de Gracia, Sants among others. This is an FGC train from Barcelona to ski resort La Molina at weekend and public holiday from December to April. You can catch the skitren at the Renfe Rodalies railway station at Plaça de Catalunya around 6.13 in the morning and it arrives at La Molina railway station at 08.43. The return train journey from La Molina to Barcelona leaves around 6pm, so skiers are back in Barcelona at 8.30pm. 

The skitren has stops at  towns of Granollers-Canovelles, Vic, Ripoll and at Ribes de Freser. From Ribes de Freser you can catch a mountain train another ski station called Vall de Nuria. The skitren is operated by Renfe Rodalies de Catalunya regional trains

Hotels near La Molina ski station

La Molina is quite a small ski station  so fine for a weekend or maybe a weekend, but not really suitable for a longer stay.

Travel time: Approx 3 hours by train from center of Barcelona - Line is "L'Hospitalet-Puigcerdé"
The train to La Molina ski resort from Barcelona is part of the "cercanias" railway network of Renfe railways, so fares are reasonable and there are several daily departures.
