THE ENGLISH DRAMA COMPANY PRESENTS “Beauty and the Beast” for three nights.

On a stormy night in a medieval kingdom, a prince as malevolent as he is handsome goads a lost old woman who seeks shelter in his castle. Unbeknownst to Prince Edmund the crooked crone before him is a dark sorceress in disguise who places a curse upon him and his servants as punishment for his cruelty. Deformed, and twisted beyond recognition - he needs to learn to love and be loved in return to lift the horrific curse. 200 years later in the small village of Beregost a fair maiden Belle and her family live in troubled times. Under constant threat from Avenant, the local lender of coin and the corrupt politics of the captain of the guard Ribald, Belle and her family fall into peril when her father’s debts are called in. Her father Winthrop leaves his family to find his fortune but after becoming lost in the Cloakwood forest, he stumbles upon the Princes dilapidated and enchanted castle and is taken prisoner and tortured until belle arrives to rescue him takes his place instead. His once handsome face is now mutilated, and decaying; reflecting the darkness and evil of his soul. He enters into a strange, sinister yet sometimes touching relationship with Belle as she remains a guest in his castle, fearing any day may be her last. Written, produced and directed by Julian Wickham.
