The Plaza Real is one of Barcelona most famous squares in the heart of Barcelona's gothic area just off the walking street Las Ramblas. It is a perfect place to have breakfast in the morning or an afternoon snack or pre-dinner drink. The plaza has a fantastic atmosphere and under the arches you will find excellent bars, clubs and tapas restaurants. In the middle are towering palm trees, a cooling fountain and two street lamps designed by Antoni Gaudi. Popular bars on this square include Jamboree, Glacier Bar and Sidecar - famous restaurants include Les Quinze Nits and for accommodation you can choose from top backpacker hostels like Hostel Kabul to 5 star luxury boutique hotels like DO Plaça Reial. During festivals there might be concerts and on Sundays there is a coin and stamp market. Plaza Reial has a lot of petty crime, so please look after your valuables and read this article about avoiding pick-pockets in Barcelona
