Trobada dels Gegants de Sant Jaume , which gathers 'giant' groups from all Catalonia on the Saturday afternoon closest to St James' Day. In 2024 that will be on Saturday July 27th. Els gegants de Sant Jaume - (St. James giant's group) welcome all to a giants parade that starts on the Plaça de la Mercè in Barcelona's gothic quarter. The celebration is for the giant figures of Ferran and La Mercè and the children's giant Ullets.

Various groups of giants will be participating. The event usualy starts at 5.30 pm and the parade starts at 6pm. It passes through various streets in the lower part of Barcelona's gothic quarter and finishes back at the Plaça de la Mercè around 7.30 pm. Gegants are a typical part of Catalan festivals. They are big papier-maché figures carried by geganters' - which means 'giant-carrier.' The giants are hollow papier-maché figures built on a wooden frame which is usually three or four metres meters high. The upper part of the figure is dressed and painted and the lower part where the geganter is positioned is covered by a skirt. A giants parade is typically accompanied by Catalan folk music bands. It's very festive and worth seeing. Thank you to all the members of the gegants groups.
