Barcelona's most popular summer outdoor cinema Sala Montjuïc presents a selection of timeless feature movies and warm-up concerts, picnics and short films. Enjoy outdoor classic and popular original version movies on a giant screen while seated on the grass of Montjuïc castle moat. Before each screening there will be live music and sometimes a short film. Bring something to sit on (or rent deck-chairs), bring a blanket or sweater to stay warm (the night breeze and humidity can be chilly). Bring your own snacks/drinks or buy at the bar. 2024 screenings The 22nd edition of Sala Montjuïc program consists of a variety of recent box office hits, timeless classics and works by emerging filmmakers worth exploring. To get off to a strong start, the inaugural film will be the Barcelona premiere of the dark comedy Casa en flames, directed by Dani de la Orden. Sala Montjuïc screenings in 2024 also include Barbie, Oppenheimer, Oscar-winning Poor Things , Anatomy of a fall and The Zone of Interest. You can also see other acclaimed titles such as Past Lives , The Holdovers and Te estoy amando locamente (Love & Revolution). Also on the program are modern classics like Billy Elliot , Grand Hotel Budapest and Pride and Prejudice, as well as classics such as Charade and the revival Back to the Future to complete a cinematographic treat for all tastes and ages. TMB buses go back to Plaza Espanya after end of film. Or take funicular train from metro station Parallel - then take cable car to Montjuïc. The cable car is only open for the start of movies at Sala Montjuic. When the movie ends you take a bus to Plaça d'Espanya. Please note also that the metro closes at 12.00 during week-days, so you will have to take taxi from Plaça d'Espanya. Limited places: 2,500 people Tickets Tickets are sold at Montjuic castle on the day of the screening (from 20:30 pm). 2000 tickets available on site. How to get to Montjuic Castle Barcelona Montjuic Castle 'Castell de Montjuïc' in Barcelona is located on the highest point of the Montjuic hill which is the hill that can be seen from from the city center on the south coast of Barcelona on the way to Barcelona airport. Montjuic castle overlooks the sea and Barcelona city from an altitude of 170 meters / 550 feet and has superb views of Barcelona city and the port area. The castle is a former military fort that was handed back to the city in 2008 by the army. Montjuic castle is now for a variety of cultural events among others the Merce Festival. Montjuic castle is open to the public and admission price is around €5, which includes access to castle cistern and some cells.
