Barcelona Events 2024Diada de les tradicions nadalencs1 day festival of Christmas traditions & customsEvent date: Saturday 17th December 2016 from 10:30 Event location: Avenida de la Catedral Barcelona Diada de les tradicions i costums nadalencs a Catalunya is the "Catalonia Christmas traditions & customs day " which is a one day Christmas event at the oldest and biggest Christmas market in Barcelona called La Fira de Santa Llúcia on "Avenida de la Catedral" in front of Barcelona's cathedral in the Gothic quarter. The Diada de Tradicions i Costums Nadalencs festival is from 10.30 and all day with highlights that include the "Tió Popular" which is the giant "Tió de Nadal" or Caga Tio log for kids in which children hit a log (called a "tió" in Catalan) with sticks to get the log "poo" presents (read more about Tio de Nadal tradition.) Usually at 18.00 a giant carnaval figure called the "Carassa de Nadal de Barcelona," which means the "Barcelona Christmas face," parades through the Santa Llucia Christmas market with sweets pouring out of his mouth. The Carassa de Nadal is accompanied by the music of the "Pessigolla de la Plaça Nova" grallers pipe band. At 18:15 the Sebastià Vergés theatre company tells Christmas stories. From 19:00 onwards more Christmas concerts and dances. Please note times can vary or change.
