News about possible flight disruptions at Barcelona airports caused by volcanic ash cloud from Iceland (la nube de ceniza volcánica. Almost exactly 1 year after the first big Icelandic ash cloud of 2010, when many airports in Spain including Barcelona were closed, another vulcano called Grimsvotn in Iceland, has erupted causing new ash clouds over Europe and possible disruptions to flights to and from Spain. At the moment all airports in Spain are open and will hopefully stay that way. The FC Barcelona team have changed their travel plans and will fly to London tonight Tue 24/5 for the Champions League final this weekend.

The Primavera Sound Festival is this weekend in Barcelona with many visitors and bands coming from the UK but hopefully the festival will not have any major cancellations, In general the 2011 ash cloud situation is not expected as serious as in 2010 due to new Europe-wide safety measures introduced after the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010. The new rules and valuable experience from last year will mean much less disruption to flights. Here are some pictures of the Grimsvotn eruption from Danish newspaper BT.dk and spare a thought for the poor icelanders who are once again covered in volcanic ash. Pictures from BT.dk
