Where is the best area to stay in Barcelona for first time visitors in 2024. There are 4 main places in Barcelona which first time tourists choose for hotels and apartments. If you are a cruise ship passenger then you might be interested in hotels near cruise ships.

Our first choice to stay is the area around the central downtown square called Plaça de Catalunya is the best place to stay in Barcelona for short visits and for first time visitors, because it is most central and best connected to many top sights. It is walking distance to the old medieval city and the 19th modernist area. Our second choice is the district called Eixample (pronounced Esh-sharm-pluh) This is the modernist area of Barcelona developed from late 19th century. Our third choice is to stay inside the medieval city district Ciutat Vella (pronounced (See-ooh-tat Vey-ya) which is rich in charm and history. Finally our fourth choice, which is mostly for summer visits, is the  neighbourhoods of district Sant Marti because it's close to Barcelona's beaches
