The oldest synagogue in Europe dating back to 1306 is in Barcelona. It is called "Major Synagogue of Barcelona (current name Shlomo Ben Adret) and is located in the "barri Gotic" of Barcelona and managed by the "Call Association of Barcelona" The Call Association of Barcelona was founded in 1997 to support and manage the "Recovery Project" of the former Major Synagogue of Barcelona, which today consists of just two rooms six feet below street level. The synagogue was discovered in the cellar of a 17th century building within the mediaval Jewish Call and restoration of the synagogue was completed in 2002 and it is now open to visitors.
