Mercat de Sant Antoni - food market
Mercat de Sant Antoni - food market Barcelona. Food market in Eixample left district of Barcelona. Also has clothes stalls and and book/stamp markets. The Sant Antoni Market was designed by Antoni Rovira i Trias (Barcelona, 1816 to 1889) who was a Spanish Catalan architect and urban planner.

He is best known as the architect of several market bulidings in Barcelona, including the Barceloneta market, La Concepció market on carrer d'Aragó and El Born market which is now a cultural center.

Antoni Rovira i Trias designed a radial plan for the urban extension of Barcelona in the 19th century when the city's medieval walls were demolished and his plan won the 1859 municipal contest by the Barcelona city council.

Despite his plan initially winning, the Spanish government in Madrid later chose to a different city plan by another Spanish Catalan architect Ildefons Cerdà i Sunyer and it was Cerdà's plan that was used.
