Funicular de Vallvidrera. The 'Funicular de Vallvidrera' is a 737meter long funicular mountain train in the in the Barcelona district of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. The base station is called '
Peu de Funicular' FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya ) on the
Metro del Vallès S2 train line. The base station is also called 'Vallvidrera Estació inferior.' The funicular train travels up to
Vallvidrera village and ends at the station called 'Vallvidrera Estació superior' with an intermediate stop halfway at 'Carretera de les Aigües'.
The Funicular de Vallvidrera line was originally opened in 1906, but renovated completly with new and modern funicular carriages in 1998. It is mostly a commuter service, but it also used by tourists to get to the communications towers called
Torre de Collserola and from there you can continue to the Tibidabo hill with various attractions. The Funicular de Vallvidrera is one of three
Barcelona funicular trains. The others are the
Funicular de Montjuïc and the
Funicular de Tibidabo.
