Steam engines Barcelona. Steam trains are called "Trenes de vapor" in Catalan. FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya) which is the Catalan railway company operates an authentic steam engine along the historic route from Martorell to Monistrol de Montserrat near Barcelona.

There are 200 seats on each journey and to book them you have to call the number +34 932051515. The steam train consists of the locomotive, a first class coach and four other coaches which have all been fully been restored.

At the steam train departure station called Martorell-Enllaç, you can visit two exhibitions:

1) "FGC: un siglo y medio de historia" (FGC: A century and a half of history), which explains the evolution of railroads in Spain.

2) " Espacio del Vapor" (Steam Engines). This photographic exhibit shows a number of old steam engines. Younger visitors can learn how steam engines work.

On arrival at Monistrol de Montserrat, you can watch while the train changes directions and loads water for the locomotive. There is also a recreational area for children. At the end of you journey, you will be given a diploma certifying that you travelled on this historic track.

The steam engine travels back and forth between two stations: Martorell-Enllaç and Monistrol de Montserrat
If you want to take the steam engine from the station Martorell-Enllaç you can get to this station by taking the FGC S8 line from Plaza Espanya in Barcelona. For this journey you can use your normal metro/bus tickets.


If you want to take the steam engine from the station Monistrol de Montserrat, you can get to this station by FGC L5 from station Plaza Espanya in Barcelona. For this journey you can use your normal metro/bus tickets.
