The most popular area to stay in Girona is in the old medieval city center called Força Vella and the Casc Antic de Girona. 

The Força Vella dates back to the Roman town and walls and the expansion of the city with medieval walls forming the Casc Antic de Girona was carried out during the 14th and 15th centuries

Girona is popular as a day tour from Barcelona for its rich history and now also for being a Game of Thrones filming location.

Girona is the capital of the Catalonian province of the same name and is steeped in history. In Girona you can where you can walk on the city's ancient Roman walls, visit the beautiful medieval center which is home to one of Spain’s best preserved Jewish quarters or walk along the banks of the River Onyar lined by Girona’s famous the hanging houses on the banks of the River Onyar in former city walls.

Girona is perfect for a 2 or stay or longer if you want to use Girona as your base and from there visit Barcelona or the Costa Brava.

Girona is just 1 hour north of Barcelona and well connected by high-speed AVE trains. The Costa Brava is best visited by bus and is about half an hour away depending on where to you want to visit.
