Plaça de Catalunya is Barcelona's central square and the center of downtown Barcelona. This is the most central place to stay in Barcelona and close to transport connections and many Barcelona sights and attractions. Plaça de Catalunya was designed by architect Francesc de Paula Nebot. The square was inaugurated on November 2nd 1927 by Spanish King Alphonso XIII. Josep M. Subirachs's striking monument to former President of Catalunya President Francesco Macià later brought the number of sculptures to 29 in total. Plaça de Catalunya is the center of Barcelona's public transport with many metrobus and tour bus connections.
