Red Bull is back in BCN in 2009 after a 3 year break. The 6th and final race of 2009 Red Bull Air Race season visits Barcelona again. The Barcelona Red Bull Air Race takes place over the beaches of Bogatell, Nova Icària y Mar Bella in Barcelona on Sat 3rd and Sun 4th October 2009 and is one of the highlights of the Festa al Cel - Barcelona Air Show 2009 and Merce Barcelona.

The 15 Red Bull Air Race pilots compete in heats on Saturday 3rd October from 13.00 and the Final is from 17.00 on Sunday 4th October 2009. The Red Bull planes are light-weight acrobatic planes that the Red Bull pilots fly through a very challenging aerial racetrack passing through gates made of 20 metre high inflatable pylons.

The planes fly at very low heights and high speeds around 350 km/h. Landing and take-off is at Sabadell airport. In 2006 over 1 million spectactors enjoyed the Red Bull Air Race and similar numbers are expected this year. Admission is free and the Red Bull Air Race Barcelona will be broadcast on TV3 and Sexta TV channels.

Red Bull Air Race enjoyed its best-ever crowds in Barcelona, with one million spectators estimated to have flocked to Barcelona, Spain, for the 2009 air race, which also doubled up as the season finale. 15 pilots lined up to take the title and Paul Bonhomme of Great Britain won the season with 67 points to the 60 points of runner-up Hannes Arch of Austria.
