Camp Nou new stadium design - Spotify Camp Nou |
Spotify Camp Nou new stadium designUpdated December 2024 The "old" Camp Nou has been FC Barcelona football club's home since the official opening on 24 September 1957. The Barça Camp Nou stadium replaced the former FC Barcelona in the Les Corts area of Barcelona which had a capacity of "only" 48,000 spectactors a huge number at the time. The Les Corts stadium became too small for fans of Barcelona team which at the time starred Barcelona's legendary Hungarian player Ladislao Kubala. The former Camp Nou stadium was built in the years 1955 to 1957. The official name was originally ‘Estadi del FC Barcelona’, but it got the nickname 'Camp Nou' (the ‘new ground’). The nickname was not made official until the 2000/2001 season after a vote by club members. Since then ‘Camp Nou’ (sometimes also called Nou Camp) has been the official name of the FC Barcelona football club stadium. Capacity: The current capacity is 99,354 making it the biggest stadium in Europe. When it was first opened in 1957 the capacity was 93,053 spectators. This was later increased to 120,000 in 1982 for the FIFA World Cup. New regulations outlawing standing areas reduced the stadium’s in the late 1990s to just under 99,000. The work to transform and build the new Camp Nou is under way. Find all the information on this page. Download the Espai Camp Nou PDF dossier of the renovation on this page. Follow the live streaming of the renovation works in the Spotify Camp Nou live on this page. Barcelona's Olympic Stadium During the renovation of FC Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium, the team plays at Barcelona's Olympic Stadium on Montjuïc hill. The full name of the stadium is Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. The capacity is 55,926 people. Only men's games will take place at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. The women's team will most likely continue to play at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. The Olympic stadium is on Montjuïc hill. How to get to Olympic stadium for FC Barcelona games during 2023/24 season. 2022 After years of plans, construction of the new Camp Nou FC Barcelona stadium starts in June 2022. The new Barça stadium will be under construction until season 2025/26. 2022/23 season In 2022/23 season FCB will still play at Camp Nou. See Camp Nou address and find hotels near Camp Nou. 2023/24 season For the 2023/24 season FC Barcelona will play at Barcelona's Olympic stadium (Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys) on Montjuïc hill. The plan is to return to the new Camp Nou stadium for the 2024/25 season, but using 50% capacity of Camp Nou while the renovation is still under way. FC Barcelona has an option to stay at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys for the 2023-24 season if necessary. Playing at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys means that FC Barcelona will have reduced seating capacity of 60,000 spectators in 2023/24 season, instead of the 99,000 capacity of Camp Nou. ....................................... Barça have been talking about rebuilding Camp Nou stadium for some years now. The latest project is called Espai Barça. "Espai Barça can become a reality after the Ordinary General Assembly of Saturday 23 October voted unanimously in favour of the Board of Directors' proposal to negotiate a financing operation up to a maximum of 1,500 million euros for the construction of the largest and most innovative sports and entertainment venue in a European city" Find more info about Espai Barça project for a new Camp Nou stadium here Previous Camp Nou stadium plansIn 2016 FC Barcelona announced an exciting new plan for the new Camp Nou football stadium to renovated from 2017 to be ready for the 2021 season. This plan was not completed. The new Camp Nou stadium design is by a Japanese company Nikken Sekkei, who defeated 8 other finalist candidates to win the €420 million bid to renovate Barcelona's iconic Camp Nou stadium from 1957. Nikken Sekkei will collaborate with local architects Pascual i Ausió Arquitectes. The renovation of the Camp Nou stadiun will increase the seating from 99,350 to 105,000 and the new Nou Camp stadium will sell naming rights so it will have a brand name that will be used with the words Camp Nou. The stadium name sponsorship is expected to bring in €200 million for the club which will cover a third of the cost of the renovation. In previous years there were several projects to renovate the stadium including the idea of building a entirely new FC Barcelona stadium in a new location on Avenida Diagonal near the existing Camp Nou stadium. Now it seems clear that FC Barcelona will stay in the current location in the Les Corts area of Barcelona and the existing stadium will be refurbished by building a new stadium over the current structure. The Camp Nou is the largest stadium in Europe and is an icon of the city of Barcelona. The proposed new Camp Nou will have covered seating for 105,000 spectators and a new, steeper first tier to improve the view of the action The renovation work is planned to start in May 2018 and end in February 2021. The proposal for a new Camp Nou plans will encompass three main areas: the new Camp Nou football stadium, a new Palau Blaugrana arena with room for 10,000 spectators and the Espai Barça (Barça Space.) A casualty of the new plans is the current Miniestadi mini-stadium, which will be moved to Barça's Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training ground in Sant Joan Despí and re-named in tribute to legendary Barca player and manager Johan Cruyff. The proposed new Mini-estadi will seat between 6,000 and 7,000 spectators. Where will Barça play during the building of the new Camp Nou? At Camp Nou. Football matches will continue during the construction. The proposed new Camp Nou stadium will be constructed throughout three and a half football seasons, but the Barça will play at the Nou Camp all through the renovation. The work on the outside will largely be done during the football season and the new terraces and inside work will done in the summer between seasons. In 2008 Camp Nou turned fifty and to mark the 50 year anniversary of the Camp Nou stadium FC Barcelona also unveiled plans for a "new Camp Nou," by architech Norman Foster, which was to be a complete restructuring of the FC Barcelona football stadium. The name Camp Nou means “new field” in Catalan. But due to the current economical crisis that started in 2008 the plans for the "new Nou Camp" stadium were temporarily put on hold and we had to wait for new plans until 2016. The 2008 designs for the new Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona were a tribute by Norman Foster to Antoni Gaudi, the famous Catalan architect, and were inspired from mosaics for the new covering of a future stadium. The 2008 design was a Gaudi-esque mosaic of multi-coloured tiles in FC Barcelona blue and scarlet colours alongside the orange and yellow colours of Catalonia's flag. Football games will continue during the construction.
