Barcelona Cathedral - La Seu - Gothic area


Cathedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulalia. The gothic Cathedral of Barcelona is called "La Seu" and is situated on the "Plaza de la Seu" close to Mons Taber, the original site of the Roman settlement of Barcino. This is in the Barri Gotico- the gothic quarter of Barcelona . The official and full name of Barcelona Cathedral is "Cathedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulalia" and is named after Barcelona's co-patron saint Santa Eulalia. It is generally referred to as "La Seu." Be sure to visit the roof walkway for lovely views of Barcelona and the old Gothic area. Barcelona cathedral is open to the general public and admission is free most of the time.

Look near the big font and you will see a wall plaque that commerates the baptism of six native Americans in 1493. They were brought from the New World by Christopher Columbus. After they were baptised they were presented at the court of the Spanish King and Queen in the "Saló de Tinell" of the royal palace Palau Reial Major

La Sardana is a traditional and patriotic folk dance of Catalonia. You can see La Sardana dancing every Sunday around noon on the Plaza Plà de la Seu in front of the cathedral
