On Saturday 25th July 1992 the opening ceremony of the 1992 Summer Olympics took place at Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc, Barcelona, Spain, during which the Games were formally opened by Spanish King Juan Carlos I. The opening ceremony took place at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, which was specially renovated for the occasion.
