Barcelona general strike of 1951. On 12th March 1951, Barcelona experienced a significant event known as the Barcelona general strike of 1951 which started with a Barcelona tram strike on March 1st. The general strike was called by various workers' unions and political groups as a protest against the Francoist regime and demands for wage increases, and a reduction in the cost of living. The strike led to clashes between protesters and authorities, resulting in casualties and arrests. It was one of the many instances of resistance against Franco's authoritarian rule during that period.
